Find and control devices

Start with your real devices

Devices shows the devices your connected Core makes available to your account. Sample devices from the demo are not imported. Available buttons depend on the device, One-Link and your permissions, so two lights need not have exactly the same controls.

Connect a new device through its One-Link on Core. Changing a name or adding a card in the sample home does not connect physical equipment.

Search by device or room

You do not need to know a device’s technical identity. The search field in Devices searches both device names and their associated room names.

1. Open Devices and type, for example, reading light or living room.
2. Check the room name above the device to select the correct light.
3. Open the device through its name to see Controls and Device information.
4. Clear your search to see the full list available to your account again.

Use only the available functions

Use Turn on or Turn off for a switchable device. Brightness appears for dimmable lights. A suitable climate device may show Target temperature and a suitable audio device may show Volume. The interface offers only controls supplied by Core for that device.

1. First check that the device is reachable and no command is awaiting confirmation.
2. Make one change, such as adjusting brightness.
3. Release the slider and wait for Core to confirm the new state.
4. During your first test, compare the display with the physical device.

Read status and confirmation carefully

Core received your command means the command was accepted. It is not yet proof that the device reached the requested state. While Waiting for confirmation is displayed, Core fetches the state again. An error or unconfirmed state is not presented as success.

Unavailable means you first need to restore the device connection. With Core unavailable, displayed states may be outdated. View only means you lack control permission. Each message calls for a different solution.

If Manage on Core appears, that device’s controls are in the existing Core management environment. Ask the administrator to open that environment.

Change the name and location as an administrator

Choose a name that distinguishes the device from others in the same room. Window table lamp, for example, is easier to find than Light 3. Names and room assignments are saved on Core.

1. Open Devices > the device > Edit device.
2. Enter Name, using no more than 80 characters.
3. Select Room, or Unassigned if you intentionally want no assignment yet.
4. Choose Save on Core and check the name in both Devices and the destination room.

Put everyday devices in One-Views

Use the star on the device card or Show in One-Views in its details. Then open One-Views for your selection. For example, you can collect just your reading light and audio controls on a tablet.

The selection is saved separately for this screen. A star on your phone therefore need not appear on your wall panel. The device still uses the same central name, room and state; adding it to One-Views does not grant additional permissions.

Investigate missing or slow controls

If a device is missing, clear the search text and check its One-Link and room permissions. If only one device fails to respond, check its power and connection; for Hue, you can also compare with the Hue app. If all devices fail to respond, check the Core connection first.

If a command stays unconfirmed, record the device name, One-Link, Last observation and message. Resolve the cause first, then deliberately send a new command. Hue commands are not stored for later or automatically repeated.
