Set up and use rooms

Give devices a logical place and make rooms recognisable to everyone at home.

01

What a room organises

A room brings together the devices that belong in the same physical space. Its name and device assignments are stored centrally on a connected Core. Your phone and wall panel therefore use the same rooms even when their appearance differs.

Room assignments also determine which devices fall within a resident’s access. As an administrator, discuss changes before moving a device into another room. The sample home in the demo is separate: changes there do not configure your real Core.

02

Find and open a room

Open Rooms in the main navigation. The Find a room search field searches room names. Each card shows the number of assigned devices. A supplied temperature measurement may also appear on the card when available.

  1. Type a recognisable part of the name, such as kitchen.
  2. Open the room through its name or View room.
  3. Select a device to open all its available controls.
  4. Use All rooms to return, and clear the search text if other rooms seem to be missing.
A control on a room card belongs to the device named there. Use a light group to switch several lights together.
03

Add a room as an administrator

Start with a simple, recognisable layout. Living room, Kitchen and Front bedroom are clearer than abbreviations understood by only one resident. The name can contain up to 80 characters.

  1. Open Rooms > Add room.
  2. Enter the desired room name in Name.
  3. Choose Save on Core and wait for the room to appear.
  4. Open the new room. This room is ready means you can now assign devices to it.
Add room is shown to administrators. If the button is missing, check your account before trying another environment.
04

Place devices in the correct room

A new room does not automatically take over devices. Assign existing devices deliberately; a device marked Unassigned will not yet appear in the intended room.

  1. Open Devices and select the device.
  2. Choose Edit device and select the correct Room.
  3. Also check that its name is clear, for example Sofa reading light.
  4. Choose Save on Core and open the destination room to check.
  5. For Hue, you can also use One-Links > Philips Hue > Your Hue lights: select a room for each light and choose Save.
The Hue room name is a recognition aid. Check the actual One-Home assignment before assuming a light is in the correct room.
05

Change a room name carefully

Open Rooms > the intended room > Edit room. Change Name and choose Save on Core. The existing room keeps its devices; do not create an extra room just to correct a spelling mistake.

Check the new name on a second signed-in screen. Use the name control provided in the connected interface. Extended sample options for zones, cards or hiding rooms in the demo do not establish that the same management action is available here.

06

Consider residents and groups

An administrator manages access through Settings > Residents & access. A resident may have view-only access, permission to view and control, or no access to a room. Different room lists on two accounts therefore do not necessarily indicate a synchronisation problem.

Light groups also appear with rooms containing their lights. A group can cover several rooms but does not grant additional access. Residents see a group only when they may view every light it contains.

07

Resolve an empty or missing room

First clear your search and check for Connected to Core. Then open Devices: if the device is listed there, check its room assignment. If it is missing there too, investigate the One-Link.

If a room is missing on only one account, have its room permissions checked. If names differ, first check that both screens open the same Core. Record the error message if an edit fails; repeatedly creating new rooms makes the layout harder to understand.
